OLED Display Performance and Lifetime
Q: What are OLED's advantages to be considered as the next generation's display technology?
A: OLED's advantages include wide viewing angle, lower power consumption, easy processing, thinner and lower weight, fast response time, low power voltage, and the visual quality is better than LCD now. After making improvement on mass production capability and competitive pricing, OLED will definitely be the next generation display technology.
Q: What is OLED's power consumption compared to TFT and STN?
A: It depends on how the panel is used. Under the condition wherein the backlight is fully turned on, STN & TFT will consume around 200 mW, and OLED is 20~50 mW, so OLED will have lower power consumption.
Q: What is the power consumption at various conditions?
A: With display panel OFF: < 0.8mA. With display panel and controller IC OFF: < 0.1mA. With timer only ON:, < 1mA ( 200 cd/m2, 100 pixels turn-on).
Q: About the lifetime issue, what's the definition of 15,000~20,000 hours? Does it mean that after being through 15,000 hours, the panel will be dead, or just decline in color?
A: The above specification means if brightness is reduced from 100 cd/m2 to 50 cd/m2, its lifetime will range from 15,000~20,000 hours. However, in real case, we can keep the same brightness by controller by increasing current supply, so the real lifetime will be longer.
Q: When in storage at 30-40°C and the display is off, will this reduce the OLED display's lifetime?
A: Yes, but it is very minor.

Q: Can customer adjust the brightness?
A: Yes, there is a total of 16 levels of brightness available.
Q: What is the minimum pixel pitch?
A: Currently min pixel pitch is 0.21 mm. After mass production min pixel pitch will be 0.18 mm.
Q: Does OLED need color filter?
A: No, it doesn't.
Applications
Q: Can OLED be used in medical instruments to solve LCD's weakness of low response time? How about advertising board, to solve the insufficiency in brightness?
A: Yes, OLED's high brightness can make up for the weakness of other display technologies.
Q: Which commercialized products use Univision's OLED displays?
A: Univision's OLED displays has been applied to numerous applications, including mobile phones and MP3 players. We expect there will be more applications and models in the market since we have gained quite high customer satisfaction.
Future Developments
Q: Do you have any plans for PLED or Active Matrix line?
A: We may not take PLED into consideration due to some unsolved problems of blue materials, but active matrix is part of Univision's future developments.
Q: Do you have plans to use flexible / plastic substrate?
A: In the future Univision will use Plastic Substrate. But for now we use glass substrate, 0.5mm ~ 0.7mm; and cap : 0.7mm ~ 1.1mm.
